I Know How to Make Spanish Click
Learning Spanish as an English speaker comes with particular challenges. The two languages don't always work in the same way, and knowing where those differences lie can make a real difference to how you learn.
Because I speak English and understand how English speakers approach Spanish, I can anticipate common difficulties, compare the two languages and use English explanations when they help make a concept clearer.
My aim is to help you understand not just what to say, but why Spanish works the way it does.
Every Class Has a Purpose
I want you to leave every lesson with something valuable: a concept you finally understand, a connection that changes how you see the language, or a skill you can put into practice.
I adapt our work to your level and needs, while keeping a clear learning goal in mind. Whether we're working on direct and indirect object pronouns, exploring the differences between ser and estar, or tackling another challenging structure, I want you to come away understanding something you can build on.
And when a question or conversation opens up another interesting topic, I know when to explore it and when to save it for another lesson.
Learn by Thinking, Not Just Memorising
My classes are an active process. I encourage you to think, make connections, work things out and apply what you've learned through exercises and conversation.
One of my students told me she loves taking classes with me because they give her a mental workout. I loved that description!
Learning a language really is a bit like going to the gym: you need to engage, practise and keep challenging yourself.
The goal isn't simply to get through an exercise. It's to develop a deeper understanding of Spanish that you can use in new situations.
Learning Should Be Something You Look Forward To
I want our lessons to be both useful and enjoyable. We explore different topics, work with a variety of materials and make room for humour, curiosity and meaningful conversations.
As one of my students put it:
“I look forward to every class. Lore breaks things down really well and makes Spanish fun and interesting. No two classes are the same.”
That combination matters to me: understanding difficult concepts, discovering something new and enjoying the process along the way.
Learning Spanish Is a Team Effort
We work together to help you achieve your Spanish goals. My role is to guide you, explain, answer your questions and help you work through difficulties. Your role is to participate actively, ask questions, try things out and put what you learn into practice.
Learning a language also takes time and dedication beyond the classroom. Revisiting concepts, practising and staying connected with Spanish between lessons help you consolidate what we've worked on.
You don't need to get everything right. You do need to be willing to engage with the language and take an active role in your learning.
The more you participate in the process, the more you'll get out of it.
